SUNY Binghamton provides financial aid packages to its students based on both merit and need. Financial need is determined and packages provided for need-based aid after students fill out the FAFSA and admissions packet. Financial aid awards come in the form of scholarships, federal, state and institutional grants, federal work-study , and student and parent federal loans.
Students can seek additional funds through off-campus employment opportunities and by researching and applying to outside scholarships. Additional aid opportunities may be available for students seeking summer and winter aid along with aid opportunities for studying abroad.

SUNY Binghamton features a Financial Literacy and Wellness Center, part of Binghamton University Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development and in partnership with Visions Federal Credit Union. This center provides students with financial wellness walk-in hours and workshop classes such as Adulting 101 and Guide to Financial Wellness, and Negotiating a Job Offer. The entrance of the center features an interactive display where students can experiment with web modules and learn about financial wellness topics.

SUNY at Binghamton provides its incoming freshman with merit scholarships. These merit-based scholarships are awarded to domestic and international students. There are three primary types that are awarded based on academic achievement alone: the President's Scholarship, the Provost's Scholarship and the Dean's Scholarship. These vary in amount and are renewable for up to 4 years.
Additionally, New York State residents can compete for merit scholarships that are available to top achieving high school students who are New York residents. The first is the Excelsior Scholarship which requires a separate application and is generally full-tuition based. Students can find out additional information about this scholarship here. The second is the New York State STEM Incentive Program Scholarship that students can apply for if they are planning on pursuing a STEM-related major.
