Students who are seeking federal aid, but not school aid will only need to fill out the FAFSA. Students seeking both should fill out the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. NU awards students scholarships and federal, state, and university grants based on need. Students may also be eligible for the federal work study (FWS) program. For students who are not eligible for FWS, the Student Employment Office can help find students on and off-campus jobs. As an additional source of financial assistance, students who need to supplement their financial aid package can consider federal student and parent loans.
Northeastern University Promise guarantees admitted students' family need will be met for the length of the program, need-based grants will be awarded annually "at the same percentage rate" as the first year, and that the university will reevaluate need if a significant change in family income occurs during a student's academic career. These undergraduate financial aid awards are provided during the admissions notification process.
Northeastern University offers a completely student-run, student-driven personal finance resource center that is free to all students. The center, which is more commonly known as Thrive among students, offers weekly workshops that guide attendees through the basics of personal finance. To complement these workshops, Thrive also has an experienced and trained student personal finance advisor who is available for one-on-one sessions and an incubator program for students interested in learning about and pursuing entrepreneurship in the personal finance industry.
The student leaders at Thrive develop all workshops based on their training and personal experiences as students at Northeastern. They tailor programs to guide students through the unique financial opportunity provided by co-ops and partner with other departments on campus, such as the Global Experience Office and Off Campus Student Services, to ensure that students are prepared for the financial components of all of Northeastern's offerings - from studying abroad to living off campus.
