Florida Atlantic University prospective students wishing to receive need-based aid must begin by filling out the FAFSA form. FAU provides merit and need-based award packages in the form of federal, state and institutional grants, scholarships, federal work-study program awards, and federal student and parent loans. Students may also be eligible for short-term advance loans for help purchasing textbooks while waiting for financial aid awards to be processed as well as summer financial aid to help subsidize and plan their education accordingly. Students who do not receive work study program funds can find part-time on or off-campus community employment.
Students can research and apply for additional scholarships by accessing FAU’s library of scholarships. Some of these scholarships may have different application materials required and/or deadlines that students must be aware of. Some of the academic scholarships are also based upon need. Speciality students such as those requiring aid for studying abroad, international students, and veteran/military students also have a variety of financial aid and scholarship options available to them.
FAU provides several tools and resources for students to access while considering funding an FAU education. These include a large consumer information page to link and answer nearly any financial aid related questions, a handy financial aid glossary, a comprehensive guide to frequently asked financial questions, a helpful financial aid policies page, a library of financial aid videos and access to occasional financial and money management and financial aid events sponsored by different departments throughout the year. There is also an Owls Making Cents: A Financial Literacy Course is open to currently enrolled students. In order to access the course materials on making smart financial decisions and navigating financial life after college, students must log on to the online portal page.
FAU makes many resources available to students wishing to increase their financial literacy and wellness development. A Debt Management Tab that links to an FAU Financial Literacy page is a place where students can challenge themselves by reading about financial topics and “facts versus myths,” accessing videos and other resources to sharpen financial literacy skills.
The FAU Library Financial Literacy page contains a list of helpful financial literacy and management books that can be taken out from the FAU library along with a comprehensive database of information, resources, and links under each of the following categories:
This FAU Library Guides page also links to a small financial wellness area as part of a larger page on health and wellness. This page lists books, articles, and several helpful money-saving recommended apps for students to download to help manage their finances.

Florida Atlantic University offers students the opportunity to apply for and be considered for a variety of merit-based scholarships. Students are encouraged to apply early by the February 1st early deadline for maximum consideration of scholarships. The admissions office will award scholarships based on the admissions application packet materials and no additional application is needed for consideration of freshmen merit-based admissions scholarships. Competitiveness will depend upon the application pool of incoming freshmen. Scholarships are renewable based upon meeting continued eligibility requirements. Some of the merit-based scholarships that are awarded are the Presidential Scholarship, the Spirit of FAU Scholarship, The Elite OWL Scholarship, the Welcome to FAU Award (non-renewable), and the Academic Excellence Award. Students can also check out the Raise Me micro merit scholarships for additional funding opportunities. The Wilkes Honors College provides merit-scholarships as part of its honors program. Students are automatically considered based on their admissions packets and students must confirm plans to attend by May 1st in order to be considered for this particular scholarship. Prospective students can review potential scholarship opportunities and criteria in this helpful FAU Scholarship Brochure. There is also a Florida state funded merit scholarship program called Bright Futures that students may be eligible for to help subsidize their education.
The following merit scholarships require an additional application that can be accessed under the scholarship application area from the admissions application: National Merit Scholarship, the M. Brenn Green Scholarship award, the Fanjul Academic and Community Excellence Award, and the Southeastern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering (SECME) Award.
