Columbia University provides a useful resource to help students and families to pay for college. This resource is called Getting Started With Financial Aid. Additionally, the Student Financial Services provides a great deal of information on Financial Aid Basics including expense calculator, net cost for each college/program, and a helpful financial aid glossary as well as on its Financial Wellness Page. Financial Aid is offered through Columbia University in the form of scholarships, grants, need-based inter-school fellowships, and federal work-study program. There is a resource to locate additional outside awards. Each school and college includes its own undergraduate or graduate financial aid office. Columbia College and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science offers need blind and only need-based financial aid. The Columbia School of General Studies offers merit-based scholarships and is the only undergraduate college to offer this. Each school and college includes its own undergraduate or graduate financial aid office and students are encouraged to visit the respective college’s page to navigate potential financial aid processes and procedures.

Columbia University offers merit-based undergraduate scholarships through the Columbia School of General Studies only. Students are encouraged to apply early for the best consideration. Although these merit scholarships are based upon academic achievement, they are influenced by a student’s financial need as well. Students must apply each year via the new student scholarship application or the continuing student application form. Additional merit-based scholarships are available through graduate and professional studies and only through the specific school or institution.
